IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE | Using specialty nutraceuticals
Rett Syndrome is a rare (or orphan) genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops, causing a progressive inability to use muscles for eye and body movements and speech and frequently leading to seizures.
It occurs almost exclusively in girls who appear to develop normally for the first year or so before the onset of physical and cognitive deterioration and progression of the disease.

Affects 1 in 10,000 births globally
The occurrence rate (incidence) is currently estimated at 1 in 10,000 female births* with no obvious variance across race or geographic location. However, as with most of the rare diseases, the exact size of the affected population unclear and current figures may be underestimated and should be considered as a baseline.
Typically, as a disease becomes more recognised by the medical community, and especially if a reliable diagnostic test based on a genetic marker becomes available, the incidence and prevalence tend to increase.
Is there a cure?
Currently, there is no cure for Rett Syndrome, but many studies are underway to find ways to improve quality of life and extend life expectancy. Animal studies suggest that treatment may increase survival rates, which would, in turn, lead to a further increase in the prevalence rate. Namëna Biosciences is currently involved in these studies.
